ALFREDTON. The prospective result of the County election, is becoming the general topic of conversation. In fact, in this district it has for the time being quit© eclipsed the general election. It is confidently expected that all the candidates will poll closely. Great interest is bring centred in th l: . meeting to ifce held here next Saturday, when the retiring Councillor." (Messrs Ee'bibell and -Murray) w:,o are -seeking .re-election, will have Uio gloves on with Mr C. Cross. Some interesting facts and figures a.re expected. Mr Cross is entering into the fight with an immense amount o 1 energy and self-reliance which would put a great many present day politicians to shame. Most of the farmers inform me that they expect a. very heavy wool clip this season. Fully half-a-dozen "sheds -expect to-start, early' nextweek about' here. . Machine shearers, it is stated, -are likely to be very scarce this season on account of the number of farmers who have recently had the machines installed. Tho flaxmill is working in full swing. The number of hands it employs gives the township quite a lively appearance. The "country around is looking remarkably .fresh and green, thanks to the recent rains.
