MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETINC.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Master ton Borough Council was j held last night, there being present, I —His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. j Coradine), Crs A. Donald, -J. P. Prentice, J. C. W. Candy, T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, J. Elliott, and H. J. O'Leary. Mr J. Dixon wrote stating that he thought he was being wrongly charged for water, and asked the Council j to inform him if he was correct ill his assumption. —The Engineer was authorised to make a more satisfac- i tory arrangement. The Secretary of the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Cub 'wrote asking permission to erect seating accommodation in the Christina and Alice Memorial Baths, and that a fee be charged, to be spent. on improvements. It was also asked that .the baths be emptied and .cleaned twice a week during December, [January, and February.— J.t was decided that the Council inform the ladies that, they lia.ve permission, to erect the seats at their own Expense, but that they could not authorise the collecting of (fees. The matter of emptying and cleaning the baths was left in the handv of the Engineer. A letter was received from the secretary the iM'asterton District High School Committee, requesting "the 'Council to curb and channel the footpath in JEtussell Street, alongisde the school.
Cr O'Leary moved, and -Or Hoar seconded, that the 'work be done. The Engineer stated that the cost would be about £33. lOr Elliott thought that the <work could foe left ovor until the beginning of aiext winter.
The/motion was lost, Crs O'Leary, Hoar, Candy and Donald voting for, and Cr*. Elliott, Temple, Ewington, Prentice, and the Mayor against it. The Engineer was instructed to report on -the matter. Mr IRI. J. Collins, Auditor-eGner&l, forwarded a revised balance sheet of the expenses in connection with the Harbour Board election. The auditor reduced the amount by £32.
The Mayor stated that a copy of (the letter had been forwarded to Mr {R. Brown, (returning officer), but no reply had yet been received.
The matter was held over. The sub-committee appointed to go, into the outstanding gas accounts, recommended that accounts amounting to £129 Os 8d be written off, and that an attempt ibe made to recover amounts totalling £79 10s lei:— The report was adopted 'and approved. Or IXonald moved that the Librarian he instructed to suihmit 3 report of th£ "books) bought and! sold, and lent, every Imonth. 'Or Ewiington seconded the motion, whiclji was icarried. It was also decided to instruct th? Librarian to supply the Press with lists of new books.
In answer to a question, the Engineer stated that preparations were being .made to commence tarring and sanding on .some oi the footpaths in the Borough.
