THE RIMUTAKA DEVIATION.
Mesrs (Boss and Buchanan pressed 'the Minister for Public Works in the House of (Representatives' yesterday morning on the question of the deviation of the Rimutaka railway. The Minister is reported to have said that the time was not far distant when the line ibetween Wellington and iFeatherston would be electrified, and then the journey-over the Rimutaka would '-be done in ten minutes. This is a very light _iand airy way of dismissing (the project. But liow long'will it he ibefore the electrical power is available? If it is to be forthcomiflg wheii the "Waikaremoana scheme is completed it will be about a decade hence. And the passengers who igo up the hill and down, again in ten minutes will not live to tell the tale. Really Mr Rhoderick McKenzie is too Ifunny. He is.quite impossible.
