DR. BEARD AT HOME

IN THE "BIG SMOKE."

Whilst on his recent visit to England, Dr Beard .a--ted on two occasions as locum tenens a few miles out <if London. He expresses surprise at the excellent condition in which many of the poorer people manage to keep themselves, though on an average they only earned 16s per ■week. What impressed him, greatly during liu .stay in the Big Smoke was the vast amount of wealth. On the whole he believed the conditions of the people were much improved. A great deal of interest was being taken in the Hon. D. Lloyd-George's National Insurance Bill, and many of the medical fraternity were opposed to some of the clause's. The doctor did all the sights :n London, witnessing the Coronation, and also visited many of the co-unties of England Herald.
