COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL
TO MR ALEX. MoFARLANE.

Despite the very bad weather there was quite a large number of people at the Hukanui Hall on' Tuesday evvj ing, when a complimentary social was tendered to Mr Alex. McFarlane, Chairman of the Ballance Dairy Company, by the suppliers to the lo- ; ca! creamery. The hall was prettily : decorated with" flags and greenery, and the floor was in first-class order for dancing, which was kept up till ■'ail early liouir next morning. At the supper interval, Mr Joseph Dawson , presented to Mr MoFarlane, -on be* LaV of the suppliers, a handsome sil- ' ver-plated tea and coffee service, and ' a ca"se of pipes. Mr Dawson briefly traced the history of the creamery from the time of its erection by the former Hukanui Dairy Association to the present day, stating that ' the whole Company, as well as the local suppliers, had reason to be grateful that some nine'years ago their guest had exercised his casting vote as chairman to sanction the purchase of the creamery by the Ballance Dairy Company. Mr George Turner the' first chairman of the old Association, and a present supplier, and Mi- W. O. Twentyman, also eulogised Mr MoFarlane's. untiring efforts for the dairy industry. Mr McFarlane returned, thanks, saying that ihe thought it almost unique to be made tne recipient of stich a presentation while 'still in harness. He briefly recounted the. turnover at the ereamery during its existence, being now about four-fold what it started 'with. Songs and recitations were contributed d\iring the evening by several ladies and gentlemen.
