A DASH FOR THE POLL.
The last supreme effort of the Continuous Ministry is made in the Pfabl'c. (Works Statement. It is a daring, desperate, determined "dash for ithe poll.'' The money is to be ©oatteired broadcast. Roads here, /railways there, public (buildings somewhere else, liver ysection of itshe is being placated intone form -or another—on paper.' In spite of the fact that a considerable portion of the public works vote of, last year'has not !been expended, another million and a half loan is to be raised, and money is to flow Jake water. This is the old game, being played over again. Tne Ward Ad'ministration knows the susceptibilities of the people—or imagines that it does—a.nd endeavours to angle them with their own bait. It will be surprising, however, if the electors allow themselves to be caught in this fashion. The system of buying rotes is a degrading one, and every self-respecting man and ivomau v ill endeavour to abolish it. The proni-i.-as contained in the Public Works Statement must ibe taken for what they are worth. After all, they are "Liberal" promises, and as such me i»iade to be broken.
