In the H»U«e of Representatives to-night, Mr Davey, chairman of the Committee wthich is enquiring into the Taupo Totara Company's' petition, ©ad a statement made in the Rotorua paper by Mr Raid, a member of the R'otorua Chamber of Oomanerce, in wihich it was stated that Rotorua had no friends in Parliament; that during the taking of evidence Ma- Dialziell wae allowed to interject by way of commentary on the 'statements of witnesses; also that Mr MJcDbnaJd had. sounded members of the House and called a meeting in relation -to the enquiry, and tlhen set up a commission I Mr Rsiid further Btated that the .report wag a foregone conclusion. Mi- Da-. v.\v said the statements that Mr . McDonald had called a meeting of the House to discuss the petition, and had then set up a committee, was absolutely false. Practically the whole of tlie stotemeots were incorrect. Mr McDonald said he had asked a few members if they were willing to act on the committee if nominated. He had' done nothing further. The Hon. R. McKenzie said the Rotorua Chamiber of Commerce were politically biassed, and flailed to recognise what had been done.
