o v AN IMPORTANT PROPOSAL. Messrs Alfred Matthews and William P-orry, representing the Rbmhey Marsh Breeders' Association, waited upon the Committee of the Masteinton A. and P. Association on 'Saturday last, and made a somewhat important proposal. Mir Matthews started tixsi.-fc at meeting of the Romney MarsliAs sociation it had been decided that an effort be mlaide to hold, a fair of a limited •nuirijer of the best'stud ramsT. It 'had been suggested that the fair be held in connection with; the ram fair fcf the Mastfcerton A. and P. Association, and he would like to know the bpiniom of the Committee upon the feubjeot. The proposal was that 'jfieeders be allowed to offer one or tabre rains a/t the fair, according to •the size of the flock, no single owner offer more than twelve* ra-ms.-'VThe fair was in the nature of an experiment, and it was not proposed to bffer ewe® on the first occasion. A tomjnattee of the R/oiruiey Mjatrsh' would .be appointed to Vnake the necessary arrangements, at the flail-. Ihe Association had also Uecdded to offer prizes for the best fcev. of five twto-tooth Rmnmey flock rams. The prizes would be £5, £3 mid £2.. The judge® would be appointed by the Association. The flock rams would not be entered in the -flock book. It had - been thought that the auctioneers might post their fees, but he would no* press this _t>ointi ;
Mir W. Perry said the only difficulty -that- he* could. see was aa to the possibly clashing of the. stud ratifd--offered- arid-'tßo&e offwfed- by fhe Association. He did not Wiink tfere would be any clashing. OnJy first-class rams. would be offered. The desire was to bring out the ibest slieep at these fairs. Mr J. 0. McKillop asked if flock -rams might not suffer if offered on the same day as- tfoe Btud rams.
Mr Matthews, stated that he was quite in the hands of the Committee. The fair could -be held on a. separate diay if desired.
The President thought, there wxrald be no difficulty in holding the fair in connection with their ordinary fair. It would, in his opinion, paove a great attraction, bringing buyers and sliieep from all parts of the Dominion.
Mr McKillop asked if there would foe any fee for nomination. iMr Matthews stated that this matter. hiad v not yet been dealt with.
Mr 0. C. Oooper thought the quescould lordly be'dealt with at this meeting. (Mr Qoopeir agreed to this suggestion, and it was decided, on his motion, that tne permission asked by the Romney Breeders' Association to hold a ratm fair in connection with the Masterton Fair be grafted, and •that the making of arrangements be left to the committee he had named
It wias resolved, on the miotion of •Ma Bertry, that the committee meet the Romney Mjarsh Breeders' Association at 11 a.m. on the first day of it he Palimea-ston Show.
