The Niapier Telegraph, wihich is one of the faithful, says "The country has had 20 years of a Liberal Administration, and tihe net result is a siuibistantial increase in Customs taxation." It further remarks tfhat "to take tlhree millions a year from the people because t&ere are gld, age pensions is less like polities' than ■plunder." It alsio notes that 'the average worker who gets £IOO in wiage® in any one year must, whether he likes it or not, pay £ls of that total in indirect- taxation/'
