STREET FATALITY
GHARCE OF MANSLAUGHTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The inquest concerning the deatn, of Charles Goldsmith, who was killed oai the night of 9th, was concluded to-diay. Deceased was a passenger by an Epsom tramcar, and aJßter stepping off the car he was knocked down by a taxi-cab driven by John William Mercer, and received injuries which resulted in the fatality. The jury returned the following verdict:— "That Ghlarles Goldsmith died very suddenly near Owen's Road, Epsom, on October 9th, 1911, and that the cause of his death was a fracture of the skull, and shook, and that one John William Mercer, the driver of a taxicab, No. 303, by his negligent driving, did kill the said Charles Goldsmith, and isr thereby guiOty of manslaughter." The following rider was added':— "That this jury are of the opinion that motor cars should travel at a moderate speed, when ap-, preaching, tratocar* when they are at stopping places.'' . 'Mercer was arrested this evening, on a charge of inanislaughter and formally charged and remanded.
