Tahell did not s>aii with the vessel, his place being taken by a seaman named McKenzie, who is amongst the massing. Peterson, one of the saved, who was at the- wheel when the vessel struck, states that the captain instructed' him to steer north-east. The mate took command, and ordered him to ailter the course to north by east. A few' ■ minutes later the steamer struck the rock.
