The member for, Pahiotua put a staiaightifbnvtard proposition to the Prime Minisiter yesterday, when he asked that the Government should acquire aJJ .Nlative iands>:< : in. : ■.tine Dominion- which are not at present profitably occupied. Sir Joseph. Ward did not promise that this would be done; but he stated that the matter wkvuild l be dealt witivjn a Land ~ for Settlement Bffll winch' is being introduced this session. A< simjple clause, enabling the Government to acquire iNiative lands by lease ', as was suggested some months back by the "Age," investing the proceeds with' the Public Trustee for administration, would meet 'the whole case. The country is d'emanding .that the vast areas of Native lands shall be' immediately opened up, and if the Government refuses this demfemd, it does so at its own peril.,
