It may interest- the Government candidate for the Wlairarapa, and others .of his disposition who are continually, railing at the large land-own-er, to .know that the process'of subdivision i» proceeding steadily, and that the'country i'e being settled voluntarily at .a greater rate than they suppose. A return .recently furnished to the order of Mr ±l. G. Ell, M.i'., shows that the most numerous class of owners is those' holding over 100 and under 20<J acres, and that what are called the large landowners are rapidly vanishing. In 1889 seven owners had land of an unimproved v.due of £2,811,000, while last year f ■ nrp /were only .two of these remain-. \- V r w ith lut £178,015.
