ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY OUR MISS GIBBS. Says the dramatic critic of the Auckland "Herald," writing of "Our Miss iGibibs," to -be produced by Mr J C. Williamson's Royal Oomic Opera Company to-morrow evening, at a. quarter to eight:—"Thvo of the most- potent factors in the success of "Our Miss tribbs" are spectacular' beauty and personality. Playgoers will leave the theatre impressed with thv former and delighted with the insistent charm of the latter as conveyed to them over the (footlights by Miss .Blanche Browne. This particular artiste possesses to an unwonted i degree the enviable power of magnetism, the individuality that instantly captivates and makes the onlookers blind to her faults. It will not matter 'in the least that her voice* though sweet; is "small"— she will be itihe reigning favourite here so long as :she is "Our Miss Oiblbs." The piece itself is up-to-date musical comedy, and in its own class, the standard of which is high, artistically speaking, and may be taken as a shining example. The music comprises a collection of catchy airs, several of which have ibeen made familiar in advance and the ear is continuously (pleased, the. effect being enhanced by,pretty orchestration. In Australia no musical play lhas been within measurable distance so successful. A run of eight months •and a half, at the Theatre Royal, Sydney, is on a population basis equal to a run of two years in London During the Sydney season no less than 516,800 persons paid for admission, more than the entire population, of Sydney itself. "Our Miss '■Gifobs'' 'has indelibly stamped' itself a* the luok bringer of the Royal Gomic Opera''Company. • As to the cbstutoiing oif the play, it is said that nothing that .the firm has ever done comes up to the lavish display to be seen in "Miss Gibbs" in the way of costuming. Over £4OOO was spent o.i dresses; the bulk of which were made by the most prominent Parisian houses. We are given to understand that the dialogue of the new play is exceptionally smart, the music brighter than usual, the Company wellup to the standard, and the staging magnificent. The comedy is full of good things, and'the principals, the fun, arid the situations are ahead of anything seen here previously. The box plan is at Miss Rive's.
