A NATIVE CENTENARIAN

DIES AT MASTERTON. <

A Native of great age, m the person of Koro Neho Kakakino, an uncle of Messrs Taiwhaio and Puhara te Tau, died at the residence of the latter at Lansdowne, Masterton, on Saturday last. The whoi is said to have Ibeen 111 years of age, was one of the first converts made by the Rev. Marsden in the Wairarapa. He had taken an active part in missionary work all his- life, and was looked upon by the Maori people as a curate. He belonged to the Ngati Kaumoana tribe. Has mission was one of peace, and bis influence in this direction was widely felt in the days of the Native troubles. The remains of the deceased are to be interred iu "the Masterton Cemetery this afternoon.
