"Great Britain, is now lending money to Canada to the amount of about £40,000,000 a year," says the Colonial Office. Journal. I'The British public is certainly showing mnuch greater confidence in the Colonies than was the case towards the end of <the last century. Last year the visible capital raised here for Australasia was about £10,000,000, and the credit of the Territory has recently improved with the increasing population. The comparatively; recent investments' in •South Africa amount to aibout £350,000,000, nearly equal to the whole ■amount- which has ibeen. supplied to Canada and 'Australia."
