LAND AGENTS' COMMISSIONS.
Thi. judgment given oy Mr McCarthy, S.M., at Hastings yesterday, defining the position of land agents in regard to commissions, does ont road like good law, even though it ha'sound.' Mr McCarthy says that a land agent is entitled to his commission when a contract is signed, even though the purchaser afterwards refuses to complete. This open® the door very wide to acts of corruption. Supposing, for instance, that a man of straw makes a deposit and signs a contract on a deal involving a large commission. If the agent is dishonest, he .may Got in collusion with this bogus purchaser, and relieve the vendor of the commission in such a way that it would be almost impossible to establish fraud. The law which- permits isuch a tiling can, hardly be said to safeguard the interests of the public.
