LORD ISLINGTON'S INTEREST IN AGRICULTURE.

His Excellency the Governor is displaying that- interest in, 'agriculture which is so pleasing and'encouraging, to those engaged in farming pursuits. / Lord Islington made a special request that he should be personally-introduc-ed to as many farmers as possible during his stay in Hawke's Bay, and Mr G. P. Donnelly, president of the Hawke's "Bay Jockey Club, during an interval in the racing yesterday, (jail- J together the farmers assembled on | the racecourse and afforded his Excel- J lency the opportunity he desired. Lord Islington, in a brief address, congratulated them upon the happy and prosperous appearance of the country and people, and the high state agriculture 7iad reached, lire 'herds and ) flocks he had seen equalled any found j in any part of the world. As time | went on they might expect keen com- j petition of the disposal of their produce, 'but increased scientific methods ! of farming would ensure success. He advised them not to put all their eggs in one basket. The grower' of fruit should also be a small farmer.' He rejoiced at having come to Hawke's Bay among warm-hearted, farmers and loyal citizens —loyal to country, to Imperialism, and ,the ; King. ' ' • !
