WELLINGTON, Last Night. * A deputation from Pahiatua to-day asked the Hon. R. McKenzie, Minis- ' terfor Public Works, if the Government would consider /the Makuri Falls as a possible source of hydroelectric power Mr W. W. McCaMle, Mayor of Pahiatua, said the Borough, Council was faced with the question of taking over the gajworks.from a.private com- . pany .ofc getting electrical i Mr /Nash, Mayor ~6T Palmerston Nbrtih, and others, ttiisQ spoke. ' Replying, the Minister said the Government had to look/at the question from, a .national and ndt "a local: point of view. To start developing a small scheme would lead to failure. Larger schemes were the better for the whole country. The Government was considering the question oft the development of the Lake Waikaremoana scheme, which would rtot cost much more than the Makuri scheme, and would supply the whole of the Nortb Island. • He was satisfied that electricity .was going to revolutionize our ideas of railway work in New Zeaand. Probably this, session the Government would ask for authority tostart to construct a small electrical branch as an experiment. ,
