NO. 2. OAMARU. THE CROWN PROSECUTOR GIVES EVIDENCE.
Mr A. G. Creagh, Crown Solicitor of Oamar.u, said:— "I am satisfied that No-license almost entirely prevent • tliie formation of tlie drink habit by the younger generation. The question of the making of new drunkards is the central point of the problem. If we iiail here, mi© fail <everyJ where; if we succeed here, we eventu- . i\Uy isucoeed everywhere. Emphaiticjj oily, as far as I can 'see and hear, a mew icrop of drunkards .is not being manufactured in this No-license district. The drinking is now almost confined to a comparatively small section, wluose appetite 'for alcohol wa,s roused, in license days, and who continue the liaibit. With the passing of these, tine drinking circle will become a very small one indeed. "With regard to crime: There has been a marked diminution in the district. As Crown Prosecutor, my duties aire now very light, and there is a striking contrast .between the present state of things and that .ruling prior to No-license. Those offences usually having their origin, in da-ink are almost cntirelv absent."— Advt.
