CHARITABLE AID BOARDS.
QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION
A rather important point affecting the representation, of local bodies upon Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards came before' the Wairarapa Board at its meeting yesterday. Mr A. D. McLeod, who represents the Featherston County, stated that this County, was grouped with the Martinborough Town, Board and ITeatherston Town Board. These three bodieswere entitled to elect three memlbers tc the Board. MJr MaLeod pointed out that the valuation of the Featherston County was about £2,500,000, whilst the valuation of the two Town Boards was about one-tenth of that amount. The Towji; Board voters, however, voted under the municipal franchise, whilst the County elections were conducted under the ratepayers' .franchise. It thus happened that, with the enlarged franchise the. town Boards could outvote the County and elect the whole of the three members.
After some little discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Mir MoLeod, that reprsentations be made to the Department, with a view to two members being elected by the Featherston County and one 4)y the comhined Tbwnr- Boards. ; ■": •''*" '
