MASTERTON HIGH SCHOOL

THE ASSEMBLY HALL.

DEPARTMENT'S SUGGESTION DECLINED.

At. the meeting of the Wellington Education Board yesterday, a letter was read from the Education Department; suggesting that a new infant room' instead of an assembly hall be provided at the Mastertoh District High. School. The Chairman (Mr R. Lee) stated that the Inspectors and School Committee were of opinion that a central hall would he mudi more desirable .than an additional infant room. He moved that the Department be again written/to, urging the necessity for the provision of a central hall. v . I Mr J. Kebble seconded.

Mr W, C. Buchanan opposed the resolution, and moved a« an amendment that the matter be deferred. H,e pointed out that a. great deal of money had ibeen expended upon the Mlasterton School, and that the bactobJocksfisrihools had been neglected. Mr A. H. Vole did not agree that the ibackblocks «choolsrhad been neglected. They all received fair treatment fronY the Board, bo far as he was aware. He strongly supported the resolution, -urging that the assembly hjall was a long felt! want. Mr J. G-: W. Aitken denied that the backblocks schools had been neglected. The amendment of Mr Buchanan was not seconded, and the motion was carried on the voices.
