Settlers in thiu district h/ave during the winter months (been busily engaged in stumping and clearing portions, of their land. Ploughing and sowing followed, and now there is scarcely a small farm to be,seen without its patch of oats, some several acres in extent. The improvement to the appearance of the district as a whole is very marked. Mr Adamson, manager of the local cheese factory, is experimenting with skimming whey. From 8 gallons he saved Ulbs.'of butter-fat, the whey being taken from the top of the whey tank. The whey taken from the bottom of the tank gave no butter-fat return on- being put thTough the separator.
