THE IRON INDUSTRY.
The statements contained in the Budget recently brought down by Sin Joseph Ward concerning the iron industry in New Zealand, are a. trifle jimibiguous. ilhey do not disclose the name of any firm which hlas offered bo establish t'he • industry in Niew Zealand, nor do they saiggefiit .what ihe particular terms of the offer are, if ian offer has really been made. The probability is that the Government wants an excuse to enter into another State industry, in which' billets will We found for a few more of its friends-, and that it is merely put-t----ing oaiit a feeler in the matter. If the iron industry is worth starting, plenty of private local capital can be found with which, to start it.
