THE W.F.C.A. IMPROVEMENTS.

Association, Ltd., in Mlasterton; • The old front, iwMoh has done duty for thirty odd years, is"entirely demolished, and its place taken* by jChio of the most, if not the mlast, /up-to-date shop fronts in. Whereas th<e ceiling of the building is sixteen feet 'higjh, thb window® are cjLosed at ten feeit, thus allowing 6ft of dear glass along the entire front throwing an immense amount of light into the ' shop. A hip verandah, the back of wjidch is painted white, increase® the light to a very great extent. The ■ windows., of wlhich there are seven, including an island window, and exclusive of the two show, cases in the doorway and three show cases in •alley-wlays between the* windows, are ■built within, thirteeen inches of the ground. The nickel (frames and sills Ibdiandiing with the glass gives the effect of almost solid .glass frontage. Originally the glaso frontage was «ome eighty feet. The new glass frontage as over 150 feet, increasing practicality double. The. sjiaces .between the windows are aid tiled, as is also the-vestibule in. which the island windbw is built. Tihe tiles are in soft shades of &wtn, and bluie, with the initials of the Association | {W.F.C.A.) worked in. The wil-j iiigß are finished in metal work, -wrath ventilators in each window.

The doorways are in eed'ar, which contrasts wtell with the finishing colour of the wSndows, wJiich is all diead white. The Lighting is by •means of seven 1000-candle power "Lux" lights, six of whiih are under the verandah and one in the vestibule. Thte architects are Messrs Ptenty and Lawrence, and the contractor Mr W. H. Bennett, Mr R. Martin, doing the painting and glazing. ®he whole as a great improveimient to the /town, and is remarked on 'by visitors as- the best business front in the Dominion. The whole effect is gqpd. both from outside and inside appearance, and. reflects great credit alike on the Association., the architect® and the builders.
