| ELECTRIC LIGHTING INSTALLATION. i TSie work of installing the elective light in the M'asterton Town iiall is now practically completed. Xhe Trustees have, .installed a 25 h.p. "Davey-iPlanmian" gas engine, of the latest type of construction, Moving magnetic ignition, and designed for continuous running. The <.-ngin£ has a heavy fly-wheel, weighing meanly three tons, which should ensure a steady light, without Hiyk-eor. The electric generator is u "Croinpton" dynamo, with a oanaciry (f 180 amtperes at 110 volts, c.ipablc- of supplying electricity >o 40!) lamps, and any special lighting € fleets that may be required by visiting theatrical companies. The plant is housed in a detached building, and is erected on solid concrete foundations, the siuiplpy mains being carried overhead to the operating swritohjboard galling" on the stage, from which point the ligjhtring of stage and auditorium wall be controlled in he usual manner. The stage lighting consists of four borders, containing 100 16-«ajitlle power lamps'. The footlights consist of 56' lamps, in circuits of red, white and blue. Floor-wells for portable bunch ligjh/ts and other effects for 50 lamps are provided, also ten lamps on each side of the proscenium opening, th© whole being, arranged With dimmers for reducing the light from the full candle power to a glimmer, and vice versa, as* may be i reqiuired. Electric portable sMeflided lights are arranged for the orchestra: The lighting of. the auditorium is very effective, thiree cluster® of pendants being suspended from the ventilators and short pendants s'being fixed in the stalls with fancy shades, the total candle power being 1700. The ceiling lighting was designed by the electrician, who also designed! the eluta-olus in the Wellington 1 Town Hall.
A handsome elutroler has been placed in the entrance hall; the stairs ■ and dressing room® rare well lighted, and a heavy iron bracket of 800-candle power Osrain lamp is erected over the miain entrance. Lamps in l weather-proof fittings Wave aiso been placed over the side exit doors.'
The work of e recto Jig the gas engine, and the wiring and fitting of the electrical installation, has been arranged and" oamed out by Mr J. Dawson, of Wellington, fo-r the' Trust, under the supervision of Mr J. W. Blackmail.
