A CRUSHING DEFEAT OF THE LAURIER MINISTRY. (Received Last Right, 6.30 o'clock.) OTTAWA, September 22. The whole of the Ministers of the Crown, with, the exception of Sir Wilfrid Laurier and the Hons. Pugsley and Oliver, have been defeated. Sweeping Conservative gains have heen secured in British Columbia, the •whole of the members returned being Conservatives Twelve Nationalists have been returned for Quebec. The Hon. Mr Templeman, Minister for Mines, was defeated for Victoria, British Columbia.

CONSERVATIVES LEADING. (Received Last Night, 11.10, o'clock.) OTTAWA, September 22. A number of election results have yet to come in. The latest available returns give the state of parties as follows :
Liberals 8g Conservatives 113 Independents 12 DEFEAT OF MINISTERS. J . LAVISH PROMISES MADE. Received This Morning, 12.30 o'clock. OTTAWA, September 22. A significant feature of the elections was the defeat of Ministers, after the lavish promises they had made that in various cities' great public works would be undertaken if Ministers were victorious. Sir Wilfrid Laurier is not willing to lead the Opposition in the new House, and his retirement from politics is practically decided upon. , Great disappointment is expressed in the United States at the result of the elections.
(The Lil>eral Party have been in power in Canada since 1896. The Laurier Government was returned to power in 1908 with a majority of 48 in a House of 214. The leader of the Conservative Party, who M ill probably become Prime Minister, is Mr Borden.)
