NO POLICY.
Hhe Government has beat the big drum iax- the Budget, to endeavour to rally the disintegrated Ltiberal forces, llhe response, so far, has -been feeble indeed, iivea the strongest of the Government supporters in the House and the country admit thfcit the policy ouifcilined is of a feeble, wislhy-wlaisby order. No attempt has been made to deal with the greatest of National problems—that pertaining to the land. No wonder that Sir William Steward, one of the staunohe&t supporters of (the Government, should ask the other day, "Wlhlat wtas a candidate to ■say if he were asked on the platform of the Government's land policy?" What could a candidate say ? Hie could merely answer tlhiat Sir Joseph Ward is destitute of a "policy. How can a candidate face ■ a rural constdtueniey in support of the Government under such conditions?
