PRICE OF WOOL.
The uftihi series ,of London wool sales opens on September 25th. A cable message received by New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., and published in this issue, points in the direction of a decline in prices of crosshreds of" at least five per cent. In tliis connection it may be mentioned that Messrs Henry Dawson and Co., reporting under date July 26th,. said:—''ln crossbreds, the holding over of nearly 30,000 bailes New Zealands has helped .tihe market, aaid relieved the situation for those who have been affected by the stoppage of wool-combing machines. In any case the carry-over can do no harm. The wool, which now arrives inconveniently early in tiie year, will all be wanted before the new clip comes in January, and if, as the holders are hoping, there arises a stronger U.S.A. demand, then so much the better for the owner. The position' appears to be one which is marked by a quiet steady demand without the excitement and the extreme ipressUire of last year. Merinos oooupy a very .strong position from the standpoint of supply alone, wthile oroasibtt'eds have shewn remarkable strength both in London and at the English Fairs, de-spite recent adverse factors. Altogether, if we can be spared serious political and labor upheavals the outlook may he (regarded as satisfactory, and price variations will paiobaihly be kept within marrow limits during the .next few .months."
