Canterbury was played ito-day, and ended in favour t>f the visitors by 12 poinils to 9. The SoutiElandeTS were the Tavourites, 'but the forwards were not up .to expectations, and the backs, tackled indifferently. Canterbury's Hne kickfing wlatf a great profit to tihle va|s|tors. Canterbury got to the end of thle first spell with a lead of 9 points to 3. Southland woke up a bit in the second ihaillf, and equalised matters. Thlen Canterbury attacked strongly, and scared,, and by judicious Erne* ticking held Southland at bay till no side was sounded* Canterbury, on the whole, had the better of the. game, and deserved their win.
