MR GRIFFITH'S DEFENCE.
(Received Sept. 18, 8.5 a.m.)
SYDNEY, September 18,
Mr Griffith, refusing the request of the Broken Hill.Miners' Association —that he should show reason why he should not resign 'his portfolio and seat owing to the action of the Government in sending police to protect the Lithgow non-Unionists* —says that no body of men sworn to administer the law' can permit one citizen to throw blue metal at another or set fire to property. If this is not prevented by the police, the persons attacked would have to defend themselves. Then> ultimately, they would arrive at the American system of the maintenance oy wealthy corporation® of Pinkerton police armed with Winchesters —a state of thing no Labour Government would tolerate in Australia.
