THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES
Despite the wet weather last evening, there was a good attendance at the Foresters.' Hall to wit* ness the change of programme. The subjects dealt with were varied in such a manner as to make the evening one of pleasure from beginning to end. "The Buccaneers" wias a drama of a type seldom witnessed nowadays. The story takes the audience back a century to the times when privateers ranged the seas. A pirate has just defeated a ,man-o'-war, and the captain, Ms wife and the crew are brought on to the victor's vessel. The skSpper and his wife (receive cruel treatment at the hands of the pirate captain. A drunken bout takes place, in which the mate plays a prominent part, and the Jatter is put in cihiains with the naval captain. They release each other, and a series of excitfing incidents occur, making the picture a particularly attractive one. "The Sheriff and the Man" was a capital story of the West, while "When the Bead Return" was a powerful A.B. drama. "Boniface VIII." was a historical drama, beautifully coloured. "The Protean Performance" wa-s a splendid■ musec hall "turn." The comedy of comic pictures' were particularly good, and better have not been screened.at the Foresters' Hall for some time. "The Saa Shores of Italy" and "A Trip to Samoa" -ware two beautifully tinted scenics. The remainder of the pictiur^s l completed a first class, programme,, which will be repeated to-uight. To-morrow evening (Septensber 20t)h) a picture* showing Hhe gvealk boxing contest between Sam Langford of America, and Bill, Lang, of Melbourne, will be shown. The oaiainy exciting incidents in this contest are clearly depiotedi, the photography bejing excellent. The demand for thlis picture isi so great that Messrs Thompson and Payne have only" .been able to secure the rigMs to it for a slhort period, and consequently can only present it for the one nighlt in Masterton. In view of the large attendance that this picture will attract, the doors will be opened' earlier, than usual to-morrow night.
