ENGINEER'S REPORT.
The County Engineer's report was | read as follows: I OPAKI RIDING.— Railway Road.—Contract No. 256: Forming 64 chains and metalling 19 ' chains of road. The contractor is now engaged in finishing the formation, the bulk of the metalling has been laid. Upper Plain Road.—Contract No. 263: 43 chains of sidewidth and f ootp'ath formation. The above work has been completed. Somejight surface repairs have beenmade to the weaker portions of the Matahiwi Road. The work was car- | ried out by hired teams. ' Northern Approach.—Contract No. I 237:.Building two bridges.—The con- ! tractor has made fair progress during j the month, but has been unable to press the work owing to the delay in delivering some of the hardwood joisting. The down stream half of the borough bridge is on the way towards completion. • Contract No. 238.—26* chains of formation and footpaths. The bulk of the heavy work has now been completed, with the exception of the immediate approaches to the bridges. The contractor is engaged in dressing and finishing up the surface. i Mr Clark's request for fencing gravel reserve .at Kopuaranga: From enquiries made I cannot learn that the Council has any property.adjoining Mr Clark's. Tenders were invited to close on Monday, and will come up for your consideration, for the following worics:— Maweka Road. I—Contract 1 —Contract No. 267 (Loan): 12.7 chains of formation and metalling, footpaths, etc. Kiriwakapapa Road v (Govt. Grant.) Contract No. 265: 17 chains of formation and culverting. Acquiring a gravel reserve. With Regard to the Mauriceville County Council's proposal to acquire a gravel pit on the property of Messrs Bryant I Bros., I have inspected the ground and am satisfied that a serviceable supply of metal can be obtained. I would 4-ecommend that an acre be purchased or taken tinder the "Public Works Act," the Council to bear half the cost of same.

Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road. Contract No. 262. The metal repairs have been duly completed. Wangaehu Road. —I purpose repairing a few of the worse ruts on the northern end of this road, this week. "• UPPER TAUERU RIDING— v Glendonald-Wadrere Road. Contract No. 250: 68.37 chains of formation and culverting. The Contractor reports that his contract is near completion. Mangarai Road. —The recent works completed have slipped considerably during winter. The men are engag- ■ ed removing same. Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road. A bridge culvert at Bowland's gate is in a dilapidated condition and I propose removing it and substituting it by culvert and embankment which will be an improvement to the road. A log culvert on mile peg 10 requires to be replaced by a culvert 18 inches by 12 inches by 45ft WAINUIORU RIDING Brancepeth Road. —A 2ft by 2ft culvert under a heavy embankment, collapsed from age and has been replaced. The truss bridges on this section of . the iroad require overhauling and renovating. Masterton-Waimata Road. —Some small metal repairs have been made to the Taueru-Kahumingi section of this road.
