| MONTHLY MEETING; J Tha monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was hejd yesterday afternoon, there being present: Crs. W. J. Welch (chairman), D. W. Foreman, J. Miller, C. Kebblo, A. Murray, and R. F. R. Beetham. Accounts amounting to £l3ll 4s Sd were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. B. Leafnwick wrote asking permission to 'transfer his contract on the Alfredton-Tinui road to Liddington and Morgan.—Request complied with. Messrs Culloty and Fohey wrote asking tihe Council to put the finished portion of their contract at the Northern Approach under maintenance. —The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer. A petition was received from a number of Lansdowne residents asking that rails be erected ibetween the road and footways on' both Waipoua bridges.—As the petition was neither dated nor addressed no action was taken. The Masterton Trust Lands Trust forwarded a copy of the resolution passed protesting against the position of j .the Waiapoua bridges.—lt was decided to "acknowledge receipt of the ■ letter. ' An application was received from Neil McKay asking permission to erect a fence on, the reserve at , the rock qtiarry, Blairlogie Road.—Permission was granted. Teoi Waaka wrote, asking that the Stronvar Road be made available for carting wool. —The matter was left in the hands of Cr. Kebbel and the En>gineerto deal with. ; " The County Solicitor (Mr W. G. Beard) wrote re the 'orocedure required for taking land for a Toad to the .Kopuaranga station yard.—Received. A communication was received from B. N. Marinering, in which the writ- j er asked tihe Council to appoint a rang- j 'er in the riding of Alfredton.—The J representatives of the riding were , authorised to appoint a suitable man. The Maurieeville County Clerk ask- J ed for particulars of special rates to i be colleoted in the Mauriceville County during 1912.—Information forwarded. _ A letter was received from the Public Works Department covering Or-der-in-Counoil declaring portion of Moßae Road to be a County Road.— | Received. j > The New Zealand Counties Association wrote re the .securing of a pledge from Parliamentary candidates .to support the introduction of a Local Government Bill.—Letter received.' A copy of the "Duties of -Sanitary Inspectors" was forwarded by the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.—Received. _ R. Riddiford wrote, directing atten- • tion to the bad condition of the Holm-wood-Kaiwhata Road-.—The matter was left in the hands of Cr., Beetham and the Engineer. ' GENERAL. It was decided to proceed with the erection of the roadman's cottage in the Upper Taueru riding. Provision ' for. tihe cost of the cottage had been made on the estimates. On the motion of Cr. Murray, it was decided that the Clerk be instructed to prepare plans and specifications and call tenders for the erection of a new bridge on the Alfredton river road. The tender of M. Kerins for 12.7 chains of; metalling and footpaths on the Waweka Road was accepted. The | contract price for the work was £75. Several tenders were received for 17 chains of formation and culv.erts on the "Kiriwfliakapapa Road, but as they all exceeded- the estimate it was -de- • cided to modify the plans and call for •fresh tenders; ■'■'■-'*■ : •''■'"
