PERSONAL.
Another early settler of New Plymouth, in the person of Mr Thomas Inch, died yesterday morning. He was seventy-four years of age, and arrived in the first ship in 1841. He was employed in the boating service and subsequently by the Harbour Board for many years. At a meeting of the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Labour party, the following candidates were selected to contest seats iat the general election. Dunedin North, A. E. Barclay; Dun-, edin South, J. E. MacManus; Port Chalmers, A. McCarthy Mr Samuel Bartlett, of Masterton, 1 was yesterday appointed clerk of works for the new brick building in Greytown to be known as the Buchanan Home. Mr A. E. Jull informs the Hawke's Bay Herald that he intends contesting the Waipawa seat at the coming election in the Government interest. ' The Hon. T. Mackenzie has expressed his desire to represent a farming community, and hopes that such may be available for him at the coming elections. • ,
