At the conclusion of the WairarapaKorowheuna football match on Saturi day, the members of the Rugby Union I Management Committee and the Wairarapa team assembled to make presentations to Messrs E. McKenzie and B. Chapman, in connection with the recent marriage of both these gentlemen. Mr A. B. Charters, Chairman of the Union, in making the presentation referred to the long and valuable service in the interest of the game and upon the Management Committee of both, and stated that he had much pleasure on behalf of the union and footballers of the district in presenting to Mr McKenzie a silver hot-water jug, and to Mr Chapman a set of silver egg-cups and stand, <at the same time wishing both a long and prosperous married life. After the recipients had suitably responded, cheers were given for both, at the call of the Chairman. The death'is reported from Wellington of the Very Rev. Father McNamara, an old and very highly-respected priest of the Wellington diocese. The deceased had many friends in the Masterton district. MrC. Hall, M.P., who has represented Waipawa since 1893, has decided not to see re-election. It is understood that Mr Hall, with Sir William Steward and Messrs La wry and Dillon, are to he called to the Legislative Council. Mir Joseph Dawson, a member of the Wellington Land Board, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr J. McArley, of Masterton,,;who ' has been engaged to conduct sheepshearing classes in connection with the Napier Technical" School, has been guaranteed a minimum fee of £6 per week for the course. The Bruce Herald reports the death, at Waihola, of Mr Robert Bell, one of the pioneers of Otago. He. was a native of Westmoreland, North of England, in which country he was born in 1822, and has thus passed the allotted span of life by almost a score of years. A Melbourne cable states that on the eve of his departure for Ned Zjeaj land on a holiday trip, prior to taking charge of the Sydney branch of the Union Company, Mr David Mills was made the recipient of "a presentation from a large number of friends and comrades connected with the Australian, overseas and inter-State shipping trade. He was subsequently entertained at dinner by the Australian Club. ;■ Mr J. Mackie. late of Dyerville, left Masterton for Plimmerton yesterday, to which place Mrs Mackie and family have lalready gone, preparatory to their settling on a section at Otaki, owned bv Mr Mackie. Mis- Thelraa Petersen, of Carterton, contributed several songs at an afternoon tea party at Government House on Friday. Lady Islington complimented this talented vocalist on the possession of such a sweet voice. Dr. W. Alex. Dunn, senior house surgeon of the Dunecjin Hospital, intends to commence practice in Pahiatua and surrounding districts on October Ist. 1911. Mrs Mills, wife of the Hon. C. H. Mills, has undergone & successful operation for a.T>T>endiciti's. Mr J. T. Hosan.M.P., announces that bo intends seeking re-election for the Wanganui seat against all-comers.
