IS HE NEAR ASHHURST? The. reticence shown by the police in connection with .the escaped prisoner. Bawelka, has resulted in the almost entire absence of any "Pawielka" news dn the newspapers. The Palmerston Times states that several residents of Ashhnirst have become somewhat nervous as ths- result of "information received)," and in consequence, ou Thursday evening, extra police were despatched to Aehjhurst, wShiUfe two conistobJes were alisO' gent -to Longburn. A well-known AshJburst citizen, is of tlhe opinion that the contention of the police that Bawelba iis ,std!ll in Wellington is most absurd, and 1 he added: "Paiwielfea .is miuch nearer this di'striot than most petoiple believe." . Asked ;as to where the- Asuhurst residents had received their "reMa.ble information," the gentleman in questiion, said he. was not at liberty to divulge anything further.
