WHARF PILLAGING.
ANTI-MILITARISM.
AUCKLAND, Last Ni^ht.
To-day Johni Alexander JVlcilntyre ((the lastt of the four men charged with theft of goods from the Auckland wharves), was placed upon his trial. .The case lasted' all day, and at 5.30 p.m. jthe jury retired, and at 6.30 returned, the foreman intimating that there was jk> possibility of their agreeing. The case wail accordingly haive to be heard over again.
OERISTCIHTJRCH, Last Night.
A 'largely attended meeting under the auspices of the Anti-Militarist League was held to-night. An oppottufciont ©lenient appeared rto he present,, but the proceedings, though trrequently interrupted, were orderfly. An address on some of the speoifio aspecto of the peace problem was given. The following motion, proposed by Mr R. F. Williams, amd seconded by Mr H. Langford, .was agreed ,to with a few dissentients, ."That Ithia meeting, believing mili■tfarisim to be inimical to the welfare of the "nation and the progress of mankind, condemn'S the oompu'lsory clauses in, (the Defence Act, and pledges itself to use every effort to secure irtis repeal." On. the motion of Mir J. A. M&Oullough, .seconded by Mr Chlrisitie (secretory of the League) it was decided to forward a copy of the resoruftdon to the Prime Minister. There wtas' an ovation given the youth, Harry Cooke, joist recently released from prison for refusing to register, who Was- carried through itihe hall to the platform on, the shoulders of two young fellows. After the meeting one portion, of a noisy crowd outdsdie cheered young Cooke, whilst others hooted him.
NORTHERN UNION FOOTBALL.
ELTBAM, Last Night.
The first Northern Union game in South Taranaki .was played here today, between, Taranabi and Nelson. Fine weather prevailed, .with a fresh Ibreeze. The ground was in capital order. Taranaki, attacking strongly, hiad the best of .the game .throughout, /the final' scores being— Taranaki' 16, •Nelson. 8. At half time the .scores •were— Taranaki, 10, Nelson' 3.
