ALLEGED SHEEP STEALING.
WHARF PILFERING CASES.
TIMARU, Last Night, Daniel Sargent, a isettler on tTiie Brothera Downs, near CtioMewood, was charged in tlie Magistrate's Court to-day with stealing six sheep belonging ito a near neighbor, F. W. Wain., at different dates from May to August. Their farms adjoin, and Wain isltlaited. that lie missed 15 isbeep previously. On the 17th inist. he was- working in on© of his paddocks next to accused's form, and came across* several paunches and heads, some of them .being fresh, killed, and near to the 'boundary fence. There was- a temporary gallows where more sheep had been killed and paunches were, lying about on both sides of the fence, and on .accused's .side a skin bearing witness' brand and earmarks. Meeting accused .that day, the latter offered to pay for any sheep missing. Wheal the cori/stable went up soimie of complainant'is .skins were produced by accused at the house. Accused was committed for trial. Bail, in bonds of £l5O, was forthcoming.
PRISONERS FOUND GUILTY,
AUCKLAND, Last Night.
The Supreme Court was again occupied all to-day in hearing the joint charges of thea:t of a case of goods from the wharf by Joseph Ehirman and Alfred Ernest Haddien,, land the alternative count of being .in possession, of stolen goods against Ehrma.ni. The jury returned a verdict of guilty agaimst both prisoners, recommending that leniency be ■shown to Haddieai on account of his previous, good character. The prisoners were remanded for 'sentence.
