MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council was beld on. Saturday, 26th anus*. Present,— Ors. F. W. H. Kiummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, 0., Isakson, C. Churchill Jack-so.! .and Eskild Pedersen. A communication was l received from . the Defence- Department, desiring t-.vopora-tion . and assistance in the training, of icadets and .territorials. From Mr Hogg, M.P., covering letter fnm -the. Actdnig-Plremier, acknowledging receipt of the Council's resolution suggesting that the old isyisttem of isteatiing representatives on Harbour Boards. lbo> n-everted to, and, in reply, stating "that he ihas had the representation®, oil' ill© matter noted, and they will in. due course receive the full and cairetM consideration, of the Government." The County Clerk, Ekeitahuina, forwarded petition and paTticulairs re proposed' loams for two ■small bridges on the Mangatainoka Valey Road. From the iseciretary to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, suggesting .that Mr J. Cairns be. appointed Sanitary Inspector at a nominal salary. A resolution approving of proposed loaims for bridges on Mangatainoka Valley Road was passed. The Clerk wais instructed .to inform the Defence Department itlhat tihe Council 'has no halls, .or.otltoar buildings under its conitroll suitable for 'the purpose intended, but ithe Chairman, will ibepleased to confer with any person appointed to interview local authorities on Itlhe .subject. 'Mr Parker, sfawmiiHer, met the Council re ibreach of By-laws, with the. result that ian amicable agreement'will probably be arrived at. • Or Isaiksion'isi action, in letting Ithe -con.tract for the light iswing bridgei over the Makakahi» River at J. Fatnrow'fc frontaige was •approved.. The (settlers on Dagg's Road . propose to form a new road over tihe big slip, and it was. resolved that the Council 'subsidise ,such work by a grant, of £ for £. The Oounicil will purchase the eggs and heads <Xf .small birds at the .same prices ias. last year. Accounts amounting to £143 9s 6d were passed for payment.
