A DIVORCE CASE.

OF INTEREST TO CARTERTON

A' case was heard at Palmerston North yesterday in which A. J. -Petersen, formerly of Carterton, sought a divorce from his wife, Elizabeth E. on the ground of her misconduct with Leo. Robinson and W. lies, who were cited as co-respondents. Mr C. A. Pownall of Masterton appeared for the respondent. , The misoonduot was not denied, but it was contended that' the alleged cruelty of the petitioner led to the respondent leaving him, and conduced to subsequent misconduct. > It was admitted/that this' dcVJurred'-wMlst respondent was living at her mother's house. '■*.■'■ Counsel argued the point for some time with the Court but eventually accepted the position indicated by the Court. It wias decided not to draw a jury, and accept a decree nisi. Evidence was, however, taken regarding the .complicity'of the co-ce-spondents, and also with regard to the custody of the child of marriage.

Petitioner said he was married to respondent at Carterton, in February, 1903. He knew Robinson and lies. He served the citation on Robinson himself. Personally he had i*o knowledge of misconduct by respondent with Robinson. ■ /••.'..

Sydney Goldfinch said he knew Robinson and saw him wSih respondent in Palmerston in August last. .Robinson told him that he had stayed at a boardinghouse in town with respondent. % >

A decree nisi was'granted with oo3te on the lowest soale against Robinson. An order wasmade for the payment of 10s per week by petitioner to respondent till the decree absolute was granted. •
