PENSIONERS' SETTLEMENTS.
The proposal made by Sir Maurice O'Rorke for the establishment of pensioners' 'settlements in the North Island is worthy of the careful consideration of the Government. As years l go on, the demands upon the old age .pension fund ■will increase to such an extent that they will be, a •serious: tax upon the commiunity. If old people oauld be given small areas of land, upon which they could cultivate vegetables and fruit, and keep a cow, their existence would not only be prolonged, but they would be doing some substantial good for the •country.' 'lh imay not be generally known that Masterton and Greytowm are tiwo of the townships l established by Sir George Grey along itlhe lines suggested by Sir Maurice O'Rorke.
