REYNOLDS FOTJHD .GUILTY
By Telegraph—Press Association. ■WELLINGTON. Last Night. The Supreme Court criminal #sitt4ngs were continued this morning, before Mr Justice Sim. Alfred Rri•tis, a negro, charged with 'sly-grog selling, was found not guilty. Edward (Reynolds surrendered to his bail (to stand a re-trial on charges of unlawfully using an instrument on a •girl to a miscarriage, and with procuring Annie Peterson to commit such offence, thereby becoming a party to such offence, and guilty thereof. Prisoner wias tried with Annie Peterson la<st sessions, and was acquitted, by direction of (the Judge, but a full court ordered a retrial on the ground that the Judge's direction, was (erroneous at law. The •case was heard in camera. Evidence . was given by the girl that (Reynolds procured am instrument and (told her . ihow to use it, which ©hie 'did without effect. Be then took her to Annie Peterson's house, where an operation, /was performed. In cross-ex-amination, the girl wept .bitterly, but dad not vary her story dai the .slightest degree. .After a retirement of an | hour and a quarter, the jury return--ed a verdict of guilty. Prisoner made do sign of surprise' or otherwise, except that his lips shut tightly, iaind his face went deathly white. He was remanded until to-morrow for sentence. William Allmam Denning was charged -with indecently as-, saiulting a child aged five yeans. The "Court' was cleared, thie details being revolting. The jury, after a few imin.utes' retirement returned a verdict of guilty. It was stated, that prisoner was a married man with, a ■wife and four children in Australia, imhence he himself came some five years 'ago. iHe had a dean reoord so far as ttiie police knew,, and it ■was suggested that • a protracted drinking ;bout was the cause of ihis offence. Prisoner was .sentenced to ..three years' imprisonment, with! • hard labour.
THE PALMERSTON SESSIONS.

PALMEB&TON N., Last Night. In the Supreme Court to-day, before Sir Robert. Stout, Chief Justice, Frank P. Burford, an ex-Ohiro Htnne inmate, . was found guilty of obtaining £l2 from Wm. Bwyer, of Huur (tervdlle, by intimating that he had £2OOO in iDunedin. He was remanded till Thursday for sentence. Reaie !Amini, with eleven previous convictions', was found guilty of the theft of £2B from the .person of Akomga iMohi. Accused was sentenced to two years' hard labour, and declared to fee a habitual criminal. John. Robert McGregor and Alexander Stanley Dickson- were found guilty of assault and roKbery. -Accused were remanded! for sentence and a probation report.
