WELLINGTON, Last Night
The Counties Conference, whidb opened to-day, Mr Jull (Waipawa) presiding, discussed a number of remits referring to t'he payment of Government grants. <
It was urged that the money should i>e paid over as soon as the votes were passed by Parliament, ir order that the work might be carried out at the proper time of the year. Several delegates complained that the system of paying out grants in 'driblets meant a waste of from 25 to •33 per cent in clerical expenses.
