A GENEROUS SETTLER.
There are few men in New Zealand who are more deserving of the thanks of a community for their public benefactions than is 'Mr Buchanan, M.l\ In yesterday's issue of the "Age" it was stated that Mr Buchanan had contributed £2OO towards, the Caledonian Society's Pipe Band. Only a. few weeks back this same gentleman made a contribution of £4200 towards the erection of a home for incurables in the Wairarapa. A year or two ago Mr Buchanan offered am experimental farm ■worth some thousands of pounds to the Government. He has also contributed largely ito religious and social organisations, and there are hundreds of private ibenef action a standing to his credit which will never be known. It is fortunate for the Wairarapa that it has in its mid,st a gentleman who, besides giving his best services t-j the country, is so generous and unassuming in bis benefactions.
