BUTTER SHORTAGE
SOME INTERESTING FIGURES. Mr G. H. Hill, of the Daphne Butter Company, had a few figures relating :to the of butter to put before a" Post reporter to-day. says Saturday's Post. The- statements, says Mr Hill, are supported by a pile of telegrams and cables all of the same tenor.l Each message stated, when coming from a supplier, that no butter was available, and in the instance of retailers tliat their stocks were completely run out. The figures for the New Zealand supply on 15th of this month were:—•
Boxes. Auckland 228New Plymouth [, 136 Patea '9G Wellington 128 Dunedin 10 Total supply 652 At the end of July last year there were available 16,894 boxes. Mr Hill states that it is ridiculous to say that there is butter being held in stock. "Is it likely," he says, "that any sane dealer would hold over supplies at this juncture when very high prices could be charged? We have altogether run out, and there is not a box of butter in our store to start Monday, morning with." .Mr Hill added that butter could not be obtained from Sydney, and quoted a cablegram he had received from PreKcott's.
