IN THE PAHIATUA DISTRICT. | Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., Who asked i the Native Minister what steps are ] toeing taken by the 'Government to acquire for closer -settlement the Native lands lying /between Woodvillo and'Pahiatua—known as Ormond's, Monteith's, and Nelson's—the Leases of which expired last year, has been informed that the land is prohibited against private' alienation, but the Native owners have so far not agreed to accept the purchase money offered. Also in some cases. they urge they require l land for their own occupation and support. Attention was also 'called by him to the block of Native land, near Dannevirke, known as Tahoraiti No. 1, the loase, of 'which expires' on- December 31st, 1911. A consideraible area of this block is occupied in small , areas by dairy farmers as sub-less-ees and the uncertainty of their poj sitions ds such as to make it very risky to_ commence dairying operations this year. The 'Native Minister's answer is that the lands are prohibited from private alienation, and meetings of assembled owners will ibe held as soon as the necessary valuations have been adjusted.
