ITS FAR-REACHING EFFECT. | By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. An illustration of the far-reaching grasp of the finger-print system came before the public to-day, when John Owen, alias GDorre, alias George Rov.e, .alias John Lucy, appeared at the Police Court on a charge- of having, on April 21st, 1906, at Moutoa, Foxftoii, attempted to murder Augustus Percy Easton. Five years ago the events precedent to the charge took place, in. which it was alleged that John Ow.en tried to murder Easton first Iby firing at him with a gun, and later by hitting him with .an axe. Search was made for Own, ibut he disappeared entirely from human ken, leaving only as a memory with the police, some fingerprints.. A few weeks back a man named ftowe brought himself under the notice of "the police by disorderly conduct in. Auckland, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. His finger-prints were taken in the ordinary course, and sent on to the. depot, where it was discovered that ithey were identical with the prints of the missing man Owen. Consequently, Rowe was this morning ifrom gaol td have the charge of attempted murder brought against him. He was remanded for a. week, and then ithe police will apply for a further remand, in order that the accused may appear at 'Foxton to .stand his trial.
