OBITUARY.
HIS EMINENCE CARDINAL MORAN. (Received Last Night, 5 o'clock.)' , ; SYDNEY, August 16. ■ The death is announced of His Eminence Cardinal Moran, Archbishop of Sydney. His Eminence was last night in the City in connection with Church matters. He returned to Manley, and retired as usual. • He was not again seen untiljhis personal attendant entered his room at nine o'clock this morning, and found his body lying across the bed. He had evidently got out of bed during the night, and thrown a cloak over his shouilders. He would then appear to have been overcome with a sudden seizure and to have fallen back dead. His Eminence opened a new presbytery at Chatswood on Sunday, and delivered a vigorous speech. (His Eminence Patrick Francis, Cardinal Moran, was created the third Archbishop of Sydney in 1884, and first Cardinal of Australasia in 1885. He was born at LeithKnbridge, County Carlow, Ireland, on September 16th, 1830, and was a nephew of Cardinal Cullen. He was educated at the Irish .College of St. Agatha, Rome, from 1842 to 1846. He became Vice-Presi-dent of Irish College, and Professor of Hebrew, College of the. Propaganda, Rome, 1856. He became private secretary to "Cardinal Cullen in 1866, and Bishop of Ossory-in 1872, njjjmining inthat position until ho was appointed Archbishop of Sydney. The late Cardinal had published quite a number of religious works, not the least important of which was the "History of the Roman : Gatholie Ohn-eh in Australasia," published in 1894.)
