MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

The .monthly meeting of the Committee of the Mastert.on Borough Council was lield last night, there being present:— His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Crs. A. Donald, J. P. Prentice, W. Pragnell, W. Candy, T. G. Hoar, J. Elliott, H". J. O'Leary, F. W. Temple and J. C. Ewington.

A communication was received from tho Pahiatua Borough Council, asking the Council to appoint a delegate to join a deputation to waiton. the Minister for Public Works, with a view to urging tho advisability of sending the Department's engineer to report on the possibilities of generating ■electricity from the ■Maikuri stream for lighting and power for Paliiatua a.nd the surrounding districts.— The letter was laid on, the table.

The Masiterton County Council wrote stating that they were not in favour of a -conference to discuss the Borough's share of the cost of a stock bridge in Columba Road, because it was (felt sure that no agree l -, ment would foe arrived ait-, as the County Council considered the Borough Council's share was half the cost.

Jhe Mayor said that he understood that the County Council proposed, applying to the Government for a subsidy, and lie thought the- Borough Council might give their" assistance, in the .matter.

The 'Mayor's suggestion was approved, and it was also decided to* ! ask the member of tho. District to? support ithe application. |j Mr T. A. Radcliffe wrote asking.! the Council to grant up to £2 10s to-; wards" some work he proposed car-' i rying out to divert the surface water from -his property.— It .was re-; solved that the Council could not entertain the application. •, A subscription list was forward- I od by the Taylor Memorial Committee, accompanied by a request to call a public meeting in. connection .with the-.objcct.—The Mayor was authorised to call 'a meeting. On the motion, of Cr Temple, a ■committee, consisting of the Mayor, Crs Temple, Ewington and the mover, was appointed to report on the' matter/of new municipal buildings for Mnsterton. Accounts totalling £2423 10s lid were passed for payment.
